Union City, MI

Community Profile

Located in northwest Branch County, is the small, picturesque village of Union City. Most noticeable are our turn-of-the-century architecture, well-preserved buildings, and Victorian homes. We are an historic community with up-to-date infrastructure and services. The St. Joseph River, Union Lake, affordable housing, wonderful parks, and great people welcome you at Union City.

Interstate 69 (north-south) is a 9 mile drive, while Interstate 94 is a 17 mile commute. These highways provide easy access to Battle Creek and Kalamazoo as well as the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Portage, which can be reached in less than ¾ hour.

Union City, named for the local “union” of the St. Joseph and Coldwater Rivers, is actually in the center of it all. Within an approximate 2 hour drive from our village, one can reach such metropolitan areas as Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and Toledo, Ohio.

Municipal services such as water, sewer, electric utilities, police, and fire are all provided to our citizens. With municipally owned systems, you – the citizen, have part ownership and a direct impact on their operations as you elect representatives to the board/council and may attend open meetings to hear discussions and express your concerns. We are a member of American Municipal Power, Inc., who provides a range of services including owning and operating electric facilities or otherwise providing for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power and energy to its customers. If an issue unveils with any of our services, they can be addressed locally with local personnel.

The location, beauty, and services of our community are nothing without a great school system for our youth. Union City Community Schools is a part of the Calhoun Intermediate School District which provides students with an art computer technology program in addition to traditional classes. Students also have the opportunity to attend classes at the Calhoun Area Technology Center, the Branch Area Careers Center, or the Battle Creek Math/Science Center.

There is a lot to offer in our small community – more than we can put into words. We hope you will accept our open invitation to visit Union City and let us show you all the benefits of locating here.
