Community Profile

Ellwood City Borough (pop 8,688) is in the “middle of everywhere”. This friendly, small town, with countless amenities, accessible from the PA Turnpike, I79, I80, and I376, is only 30 minutes from Pittsburgh and the International Airport, and 2 hours or less from Cleveland and Erie.

Educational opportunities abound. Geneva College, The University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Grove City University, Slippery Rock University, Thiel College, Youngstown University, and Westminster College, are all available within an hour or less.

Downtown Ellwood City is in the beginning stages of revitalization with a Farmer’s Market, and Community Plaza that will be the venue for entertainment.

Ewing Park offers a unique walking trail along the Connoquenessing Creek, basketball courts, a swimming pool, ten picnic shelters, an outdoor theater, and an impressive playground called Kid’s Created Kingdom. Annually, the Park is the host of the Ellwood City Arts, Crafts, and Food Festival; an Earth Day celebration; Christmas-in-the Park and an Easter Egg Hunt, just to name a few.

The centerpiece of Ewing Park is Trefoil Lodge. Built by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the depression, the stone building boasts beautiful fireplaces and hardwood floors. State historic designation is being pursued.

Ellwood City is in the process of replacing its 796 street lights with state of the are LEDs, manufactured right in Ellwood City and 80% American made. With over $400,000 in energy grants, the program is 55% complete with 115 more lights to be installed in 2011. Street lighting costs have been reduced 70%.

The amenities of Ellwood City have proven to be the right mix for a variety of business and industry. We have our own municipally managed Revolving Loan Fund and are ready to work with you to make locating in our community feasible and economical.
