About
American Metals Recycling Site
The American Metals Recycling Site is an approximately 92-acre industrial property located at 1 American Drive in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Strategically positioned within the Ellwood City area, it features industrial, warehouse, and office space, vacant land, and significant electrical infrastructure. The site includes approximately 64.92 acres of vacant land, approximately 50,000 square feet of light warehouse space across multiple buildings, and approximately 350,000 square feet of total space across the footprint. Its available land and existing infrastructure present significant opportunities for industrial, warehouse, transportation, office, data center, and other power-intensive users.
Site History
The site has a long history of industrial activity in the Ellwood City community. It was originally home to the Ellwood Weldless Tube Company, founded by Ralph Stiefel, a Swiss-born engineer whose invention of the rotary piercing process represented a significant development in the production of seamless steel tubing. The technology and industrial operations established at the property ultimately became the central nucleus for U.S. Steel’s National Tube Division, contributing to the site's longstanding role as an important industrial center within the region.
The site was later utilized for the INMETCO battery recycling operation, which occupied its largest structure and further established the property as a location for specialized industrial activity. Today, it is being repositioned to accommodate new industrial and commercial opportunities while retaining its existing industrial character and infrastructure.
Site Configuration and Current Use
The site consists of multiple existing industrial structures, warehouse and office spaces, and large areas of vacant, developable land. A portion of the property is currently undergoing renovation and is available for lease to the commercial marketplace, with available space including office and light warehouse uses. The available space provides opportunities for businesses seeking commercial or light industrial space within an established industrial property.
A significant advantage of the property is its existing heavy-power infrastructure. An on-site substation and infrastructure currently capable of supporting up to 100 megawatts of power provide opportunities for energy-intensive users, including data centers, artificial intelligence facilities, and other advanced technology operations. Further enhancements to the power infrastructure capacity are possible based on the end-users need. The combination of available land, existing industrial space, substantial power capacity, and proximity to a skilled workforce positions the American Metals Recycling Site as a unique redevelopment and investment opportunity within Western Pennsylvania.
