Community Profile

Tarentum is a western Pennsylvania Borough located just 22 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh. With a history that dates back to the early 1700’s, Tarentum is a place with a strong heritage, while also focused on a growing and prosperous future.

The Borough is uniquely located along the Allegheny River just south of the tri-county point of Allegheny, Armstrong and Westmorland counties, approximately 6 miles from Interstate 76. The current population (2023) is 4,187 people, and the Borough has seen a rise in younger demographics who have been attracted by the many modern amenities offered by the community.

The area boasts a thriving business community, as well as a beautiful riverfront park, with a covered amphitheater, playgrounds, and ample riverfront.

Tarentum Borough is one of thirty-five Pennsylvania Boroughs to own and operate its own electric distribution system. Tarentum Electric / Redcat Power strives to provide customers with a safe, reliable, and competitively priced service. By purchasing power wholesale directly from the market, the electric company is able to provide competitive rates while offering an additional economic benefit to the Borough and its residents.

The Borough is a wonderful place to live, work and thrive. Come and see all that Tarentum has to offer.
