Community Profile

Amongst the scenic panorama of the Appalachian Mountains and the Susquehanna River, Royalton, Pennsylvania, offers a beautiful location with great accessibility. Located on PA 441, our borough is close to several interstate highways. Interstate 76 is less than a 2 mile commute, while Interstates 78, 81, and 83 are all within 13 miles. These quality roadways allow major markets/metropolitan areas and other means of transportation to be readily attainable. Cities within an approximate hour or less commute include: Hershey, Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Reading, Pennsylvania. Within two hours, one can drive to Allentown or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; or Baltimore, Maryland. Amtrak service can be obtained within 20 minutes of Royalton, and the Harrisburg International Airport is just a 6 minute drive.

We offer a “public power” municipal electric system. As such, the system is owned by our citizens, governed locally, and maintained right here in Royalton. We are members of a multi-state non-profit consortium, American Municipal Power (AMP), who owns, operates, or otherwise provides for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric energy to its members; as well as a wide range of other services for the benefit of their member communities. Together, it is our goal to provide Royalton with quality, economical power and related services.

Our school children attend Middletown Area Schools in Middletown, just a 5 minute commute. Upon graduation, they may choose one of several colleges/universities close to home: Penn State Harrisburg, Harrisburg Area Community College, Messiah College, Dickinson College, Millersville University of Pennsylvania, York College of Pennsylvania, or Gettysburg College.

Nature provides many wonderful recreational and leisure opportunities in our area, including fishing, boating, and hiking. However, there is more. Our parks offer a variety of ways to spend an afternoon or evening. We are just minutes from the state capital of Harrisburg which hosts a variety of cultural events; and Hershey with its fine candy, amusement park, gardens, and theatre can be reached within twenty minutes.

There is something for everyone in Royalton and Dauphin County. Come see for yourself. Allow us the opportunity to show you around and explain what our community has to offer.
