Community Profile
Located in Carbon County, Weatherly, Pennsylvania, is an attractive community for anyone to locate. We are a small borough with accessibility, our own municipal electric system, local school system, recreational opportunities, and other amenities that set us apart from the larger metropolitan areas.
We are situated 4.27 miles from PA 93, and less than 11 miles from Interstate 80 and Interstate 81. These roadways allow quick access to major metropolitan areas such as: Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (approximately 1 ¾ hour commutes); Trenton, New Jersey (2 hours); New York City, New York (2 hours 25 minutes), and Baltimore, Maryland (3 hours). Several airports are also accessible within an hour including Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Our municipal electric system is owned, governed, and operated locally by the borough. Residents have part-ownership, have the opportunity to elect representatives to the board/council, and attend their open meetings. Any electrical issues are resolved locally within the borough. As a municipal system, we aim to provide a quality service at an economical price. We are members of American Municipal Power (AMP) – a nonprofit corporation serving municipal electric systems in six states, organized for the purpose of owning and operating electric facilities or otherwise providing for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power and energy to its members.
Education for our youth is provided by the Weatherly Area School District. Graduates have a variety of offerings to further their education close to home. Lehigh Carbon Community College offers two locations: Nesquehoning, PA (15 minutes) and Tamaqua (25 minutes). Several major colleges are also available within an hour, including: Penn State Hazleton, King’s College, Cedar Crest College, and Muhlenborg College.
In addition to the traditional park system, Weatherly offers The Eurana Park Indoor Pavilion for rent. Other leisurely attractions in the area include: Rockport at Lehigh Valley Gorge (within 4.5 miles) which offers the scenic Luke Falls and river rafting, and Audubon’s Lehigh Auto Tour – a scenic and informative self-paced tour of 53 miles through valleys and natural landscapes.
