Community Profile

Situated along the Ohio River in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, New Martinsville is the county seat of Wetzel County. WV 2 and OH 7 provide north-south transportation through and around the city. Via these highways, one can drive to Parkersburg (south) or Wheeling (north) within an hour, where one can attain access to Interstate 77 (north-south) in Parkersburg and Interstate 70 (east-west) in Wheeling. From Wheeling, Interstate 79 is just 25 minutes. WV7 and WV20 also provide east-west transportation. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, can be driven in less than 2 hours; while Charleston, West Virginia, can be driven in 2 ¼ hours; and Columbus, Ohio, in 2 hours 50 minutes. For longer commutes, one may attain limited air transportation at Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport, within an hour’s drive; or, within 1 ¾ hour one can drive to Pittsburgh International Airport.

Though we are a small city, we have access to a variety of other shipping options including rail, FedEx, USPS, UPS, etc. We offer municipal utilities that provide you with quality and economical electric, water, and sewer. Rather than wait for service from another location, we are local and are here to serve “our” community. As municipal utilities, you have part-ownership and have an opportunity to take part in electing Council representatives to oversee the operations and participate in their open meetings.

Our students are educated through the Wetzel County School District with local schools in New Martinsville. West Virginia Northern Community College is also located here. Northern has more than 70 programs and a variety of continuing education opportunities. They offer several “two plus two” transfer opportunities with four-year colleges; online courses (tele-courses, electronic courses, and offerings through Southern Regional Electronic Campus); and hosts a Center for Economic and Workforce Development (EWD). The EWD contributes greatly to the economic development of the area in providing flexible learning to meet the needs of individuals and our businesses.

We offer an outstanding quality of life, excellent utility rates, quality education, available industrial and business sites, various incentives, and a labor force willing and able to meet your needs. If you are looking for a site for your business, call us to arrange a visit so we can give you a tour of the area and discuss the benefits of locating in New Martinsville!

Thank you for your interest in AMP Economic Development
