Situated along the Shenandoah River in northwestern Virginia, Front Royal’s location is one of beauty and accessibility. The beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Massanutten Mountains provide a majestic setting. Yet, we are easily accessible via Interstate 66 (approximately 5 minutes north) and Interstate 81 (approximately 10 minutes northwest). Within 1 – 1 ¾ hours, we also have access to Interstates 64, 68, 70, and 95. Washington, D.C. is approximately 1 ¼ hours to the east. For air travel, Washington- Dulles International Airport is just over an hour’s drive, while Front Royal-Warren County Airport is approximately 10 minutes from downtown. Local travel is also accessible via trolley and limousine.
Front Royal offers many local services including electrical, water and wastewater, refuse and recycling, street maintenance, etc. As these services are municipally-owned, our employees are here to serve our customers/owners. Our town actively participates in Federal and State legislation to provide the best and most economical utilities. Our Department of Energy Resources (electric) maintains membership in the Municipal Electric Power Association of Virginia (MEPAV), Blue Ridge Power Agency (BRPA), American Municipal Power (AMP), and American Public Power Association (APPA). It is our mission to provide the best service while keeping our prices low and interruptions to a minimum. When an issue does arise, you speak with local personnel who are knowledgeable of the system and your needs.
Local students are educated through Warren County Schools including Warren County High School and Skyline High School. They may also choose to attend one of two private schools: Randolph-Mason Academy or Riverfront Christian School. For those who wish to attain additional training and obtain a degree close to home, several colleges and universities are within an 1 ¼ hour drive. They include Lord Fairfax Community College, Shenandoah University, George Mason University, Shepherd University, Northern Virginia Community College, and James Madison University.
