Community Profile

This is more than a motto, it truly reflects the qualities which set Versailles apart.  Our boundaries may change,  but the friendliness of our community and its citizens will never change.

Located in west central Ohio, with a population of just over 2,500, we are small in size, but large in opportunities.  Located in Darke County, just 18 miles from Interstate 75 and 35 miles north of the Dayton International Airport, we are home to many of the county’s most successful and professional enterprises, i.e. Midmark Corporation, Weaver Brothers Inc., etc. This can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of our community and its surrounding labor force, our school system, and our way of life.  Manufacturing, meat, pasta, eggs, retail &  trucking, and a variety of service industries provide our citizens with diverse occupational opportunities, as well as provide for their everyday needs.

After a hard day’s work, one will find Versailles a peaceful and relaxing setting to call home. Our residents enjoy various recreational facilities including parks, fitness centers, swimming pools, etc. An eighteen hole public golf course, is located just outside of our community. An annual Poultry Days Festival is held each year in June, with proceeds providing for many services within the community including the establishment and maintenance of Heritage Park.

Versailles is a public power community, and one which APPA (American Public Power Association) has recognized as an RP-3 (reliable, public power provider) community. By having our own electric distribution system, customers need only call our village offices to obtain an immediate response to any electrical utility issue that may arise. Public power, together with our other local utilities, provide hometown services at reasonable rates.

Education plays a key role in our success.  Versailles Exempted Village Schools opened a brand new K-12 school facility at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. With a rigorous math and science based curriculum, Versailles Schools is recognized as one of the state’s top school districts based on state proficiency test scores. The Versailles Schools has received State Board of Education recognition having been rated 6 consecutive years as Excellent with Distinction. It also provides quality extra-curricular activities, and has been recognized for its achievements in these areas as well. With a small student population, our educators are able to provide more individualized assistance, and a well-rounded education. The success of our students speaks for itself.
