Location, Location, Location
Located adjacent to Interstate 70 in eastern Ohio, St. Clairsville is the county seat of Belmont County. Situated among rolling hills, St. Clairsville is sometimes referred to as a “Paradise on the Hilltop” and has even enjoyed a reign as the America in Bloom National Champion.

Downtown St. Clairsville
St. Clairsville provides easy access to larger metropolitan areas, increasing potential opportunities. Interstates 77 and 79 can both be reached within 45 minutes. Because of the convenient access to interstate highways, Washington, D.C.; Detroit, Mich.; Indianapolis, Ind.; and Louisville, Ky., are all accessible in 4 ½ to 5 ½ hours. The Pittsburgh International Airport can be reached in just over one hour.
The heart of the community beats in St. Clairsville’s historic downtown district, which in 1994 was listed on the U.S. Department of Interior’s National Register of Historic Places. The Belmont County Courthouse and the Belmont County Heritage Museum anchor this vibrant downtown area. Specialized retail and a few dining options accentuate this quaint and walkable district. A stroll along Main Street is well worth the trip for history and architecture buffs since many of the structures in the district date back to the 1820s.

The historic Clarendon Hotel, built in 1890, is one of the largest and most significant buildings in the downtown district, partly because of its association with the Historic National Road. This recently restored structure offers first-floor retail or office space. The second and third floors have been renovated, and furnished apartments are available for lease.

The National Road Bikeway in St. Clairsville is Ohio’s only rail trail with a tunnel. The tunnel itself is 532 feet long and 40 feet high. The interior was designed to maintain a cave-like atmosphere during the bikeway’s restoration. At the tunnel’s northern end, a two-plaza overlook offers an impressive view of the bike trail from 80 feet above at the top level. This tunnel is definitely a sight worth experiencing.

The site features a private, 100-unit senior living facility and the city’s new 500,000-gallon water tank. Community-related enhancements have been discussed, including the addition of walking paths, a park and activity stations, with the goal of connecting these amenities to the existing National Road Bikeway. A connector road (Commons Mall Crossing) has been constructed under the auspices of the Ohio Department of Transportation. This road passes through St. Clair Commons, opening up additional opportunities while making a new connection between U.S. 40 and the Ohio Valley Mall in Richland Township.

Developed in the early 1990s, Plaza West is St. Clairsville’s more modern business district. This shopping area contains a major, locally owned supermarket as its anchor. This busy shopping district comprises restaurants, doctors’ offices, banks and a medical complex.
On the west end of St. Clairsville, approximately 19 acres are available for development. Zoned as Office and Institution, the site is contiguous to U.S. 40 and Interstate 70. If utilities were extended to the area, the property would be ripe for development.

(AMP) is the nonprofit wholesale power supplier and services provider for more than 130 Members in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, a joint action agency with eight Delaware municipal members. Combined, these Member municipal electric utilities serve approximately 650,000 customers. AMP Members receive their power supply from a diversified resource mix that includes wholesale power purchases through AMP and the open market and energy produced at AMP and Member-owned generating facilities utilizing fossil fuel, hydroelectric, solar, wind, and other renewable resources.
