After more than a decade of planning and steadfast investment to create a world-class industrial park, the City of Wapakoneta, Ohio, has succeeded in its mission. The West Central Ohio Industrial Center (WCOIC) at the intersection of Interstate 75 and US 33 is now one of the nation’s largest rail-served, shovel-ready industrial parks.
The WCOIC Job Ready Site, comprised of a total of 471 acres, has the flexibility to offer sites from 40 to 471 acres. The site has I-75 visibility on its east perimeter and direct access to CSXT mainline rail on the west. A new lead track from the mainline on to the Job Ready Site was recently constructed.
Centrally located between Chicago, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, the WCOIC is within a day’s drive of 50% of North America’s population and 60% of its manufacturing companies. Easy access to these profitable markets lowers your cost of doing business. The site has direct, non-stop access to Interstate 75 in less than two miles. With its interstate and rail advantages the WCOIC connects you with the Midwest’s strong supply chain across numerous key industries and thereby increases your efficiencies and profits.
As a certified Ohio Job Ready Site, electricity, natural gas, water, wastewater, and fiber – all at industrial capacity – are currently on site in the West Central Ohio Industrial Center. Additional utility infrastructure including electric substation, 1.5 million gallon water tower, and wastewater lift station are also in place. The City of Wapakoneta remains committed to making additional infrastructure investments. The City’s new $10 million fresh water treatment facility brings current water capacity to 5.2 million gallons per day. Water is supplied from well fields fed by the underground Teas River Valley aquifer, one of North America’s largest fresh water resources.
Wapakoneta is also in the midst of a $15 million upgrade to its municipal electric distribution system. As a public power community, it provides excellent and dependable service at highly competitive rates. The City recently adopted a revision to its industrial rate schedule providing a 1 cent/kWh discount for new electric load. The city’s continued investment in infrastructure improvements and its dedication to competitive rates is how Wapakoneta helps companies succeed.
As a certified site, the West Central Ohio Industrial Center has undergone detailed site analysis including Phase One Environmental, Wetlands Delineation, Geotechnical, Cultural Resources Study, Endangered Species, and Historic Area of Potential Effect (EPA) Evaluation. None of these studies identified any issues that would stop a project or impede its progress.
All of this detailed information and more can be found at the West Central Ohio Industrial Center’s new website. We are ready to help and look forward to talking with you about your project.
