Community Profile
Situated in north central Ohio in Wyandot County on OH 293/CR 47, Wharton is a small village 35 minutes southwest of Tiffin. We are located 5 minutes north of U.S. 30, 10 minutes west of U.S. 23, and 25 minutes east of Interstate 75. These highways, together with the Ohio Turnpike (an hour commute), provide access to many metropolitan areas. Within a 4 hour drive, we can reach such destinations as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Parkersburg, West Virginia; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Our historic downtown is the main visitor attraction; however, there is much more our village has to offer. One of these is our municipally-owned, “public power”, electric distribution system. This is of great benefit as it is owned by our citizens who elect representatives to serve on the board/council, and allows citizens to voice their opinions in local, open meetings. If there is an electrical problem, local personnel are available to resolve the issue.
Local school children attend the “excellent” Riverdale Local Schools, as rated by the State of Ohio. Nearby are several colleges/universities from which to choose. Within 30 minutes are The University of Findlay and Ohio Northern University. Tiffin University is an approximate 35 minute drive, while Bowling Green State University is a 50 minute drive.
Wyandot County offers a variety of parks for recreation and relaxation. There are also several golf courses from which to choose.
We may be small, but we’re a solid community who work together to undertake huge tasks. We’re rich in heritage, but look forward to a developing future. You are welcome to be a part of it. Give us a call and we’ll be glad to show you what Wharton has to offer.
