Chambersburg is strategically located near Interstate 81, US Route 30 and US Route 11. The borough has a rich history that dates back to 1730, when it was first settled in 1730 by the Chambers brothers. The borough was officially founded in 1764 by Benjamin Chambers, and officially incorporated in 1803.

The Borough focuses on forging strategic partnerships, Chambersburg is the largest public power system in. The borough’s electric system serves approximately 11,700 meters. Out of 89,000 local governments, Chambersburg is one of about 60 in the U.S to run both its own natural gas and electrical systems. Under Town Council control directly, Chambersburg also operates a regional water system and a regional sanitary sewer system.

Chambersburg also offers more services than any other municipality in Pennsylvania. The typical town functions for the borough include: a highway department, a land use and community development department, a local Police Department, a combination paid and volunteer Emergency Service Department, a Recreation Department, a municipal parking and streetlights utility, a residential and commercial trash utility, a Main Street downtown revitalization effort and an Elm Street neighborhood preservation program.

The foundation of the Chambersburg Area Development Corporation (CADC) focuses on investment into the community through real estate and the development of four business and commercial parks. The Chambers-5 Business Park is 350 acres and is a premier location to grow business in south central Pennsylvania. The CADC also developed the Fifth Avenue Commercial Center, which is a professional business center that is another fast-growing business sector in the State. Along with creating these parks the CADC also worked to add a new exit off Interstate 81 in the Northern part of the Borough. This exit allowed for more retail space to open providing a boost in the economy.
