Community Profile
Along the western bank of the Lehigh River on U.S. 209, sets the Borough of Lehighton, Pennsylvania. Our German heritage is evident among our people, our architecture, and our way of life. We believe in a hard day’s work.
Interstate 476 is an approximate 3 mile drive, while Interstates 79, 80, and 81 are approximately 22 miles. These interstate highways provide the necessary access ingress and egress to our community. Metropolitan areas such as Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Trenton, New Jersey, can all be driven in less than two hours; while New York City and Stamford, Connecticut, can be accessed in less than 3 hours. We are within easy commute of various sized airports including Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown (38 minutes) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport in Scranton (50 minutes).
Lehighton is proud to have its own municipal electric distribution system. Municipally owned systems are citizen owned systems. You – the citizen, have a direct impact on their operations as you elect representatives to the board/council and may attend open meetings to hear discussions and express your concerns. If an issue unveils with any of our services, they can be addressed locally with local personnel. American Municipal Power, Inc., of which we are a member, provides assistance with generation, transmission and distribution of electric power and other related services. Together, we are able to provide our customers with reliable, economical power.
Lehighton Area School District provides education for our youth. Graduates have an opportunity to further their education close to home through a variety of institutions. Some of the colleges/universities within 45 minutes of our borough include: Penn State Hazelton, Penn State LehighValley, Penn State – Schuylkill, Strayer University, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Muhlenberg College, and Lincoln Technical Institute.
Recreational and leisure opportunities are readily available in our parks. They literally offer something for everyone: playground facilities, baseball and football fields, basketball and tennis courts, pavilions, comfort stations, swimming pool, fountain, amphitheater, etc. We also have a multi-purpose recreation center which offers various services and meeting room space.
Lehighton has a successful venture waiting for you. Blue Mountain Machine (premier CNC machining shop), Standard Metal, Industries LLC (aluminum and stainless steel goods), and Lehighton Electronics, Inc. (process control instruments for the semiconductor industry) have all achieved in our location. We invite you to visit and allow us to show you what our borough has to offer you.
