Community Profile

Located adjacent to Interstate 70 in eastern Ohio, St. Clairsville is the county seat of Belmont County. Amongst the rolling hills, our community is sometimes referred to as a “Paradise on the Hilltop”. Our beautiful landscaping and clean air allow for a healthy, relaxing atmosphere for our residents to call home. We have even enjoyed a reign as the America in Bloom National Champion.

The City of St. Clairsville owns and operates its own electric distribution, water, and wastewater services. These municipal systems allow the residents to be involved in their development as they elect representatives to the Board and/or Council, and may attend their open meetings to voice opinions. If something needs fixed, local personnel are readily available.

We are home to a variety of educational opportunities. Our youth may choose between the St. Clairsville Public School System or private/parochial schools which include two elementary and one high school. Belmont/Harrison Vocational School is also an option for high school students. Higher learning is available in our community as well — Ohio University – Eastern Campus and Belmont Technical College are located here.

Recreational opportunities abound here including the National Road Bikeway. Our bikeway, constructed of abandoned railway lines, connects neighborhoods, parks, and people. Shopping is also conveniently located near St. Clairsville with the Ohio Valley Mall (150 stores and services) and the Plaza West Shopping Center.

If there is something not offered in our array of opportunities, we provide easy access to larger metropolitan areas. Interstates 77 and 79 can both be reached within 45 minutes. Our access to interstate highways make Washington, D.C.; Detroit, Michigan; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Louisville, Kentucky; all accessible in 4 ½ – 5 ½ hours. Pittsburgh International Airport can be reached in just over one hour.

Come visit our beautiful City and let us show you what we have to offer. We are confident you, too, will want to plant some roots right here in eastern Ohio.
